Direct-to-Consumer Shipping: How It Can Work for Brewers and Distillers

Sovos ShipCompliant Webinar

DATE: Thursday, August 20, 2020
TIME: 10:00 PT / 11:00 MT / 12:00 CT / 1:00 ET
DURATION: 1 hour with Q&A

Direct-to-consumer (DtC) shipping of alcohol is on everyone’s minds these days, as consumers and suppliers alike look for better and easier ways to interact.

DtC shipping of wine, for example, is now available in almost every state and regularly brings in annual revenue in excess of $3 billion. But it took decades of effort—including a Supreme Court decision and years of lobbying efforts—to grow from a niche, gray market to its current state.

As brewers and distillers look to enter this market, what lessons can they learn from wine’s success? These lessons range from basic understanding of DtC shipping laws and how to manage a DtC marketplace to broader lobbying efforts needed to expand the map of where beer and spirits can legally be shipped.

Please join us for a look at how DtC shipping can work for brewers and distillers. Topics will include:

  • The current state of shipping beverage alcohol direct-to-consumer
  • The rules that govern DtC shipping, from licensing requirements to tax remittances
  • How non-winery producers can create effective and compliant DtC shipping programs
  • The role of industry-level efforts to expand the DtC alcohol shipping opportunity
